CHILD PROTECTION POLICY - SUMMARY
1. The YMC is a charitable trust (charity number:1077495) whose object and principal activity is to provide a happy environment in which young people can come together to realise their musical potential. This is achieved through the provision of a Saturday morning music school, the Youth Music Centre, offering a variety of musical activities and classes ranging from musicianship, choir and instrumental tuition to orchestras to ensemble work.
2. The YMC is a company limited by guarantee.
3. The YMC is not a child care organisation in the full meaning of the Children's Act 1999.
4. The YMC aims to provide a safe and caring environment for children under 18 years in
co-operation with their parents, guardians, carers and teachers and to ensure so far as is reasonable that the available facilities will produce this environment.
5. All members of the teaching staff have to show evidence of an up to date CRB check. In addition, at least one member of staff has a First Aid certificate.
6. All members of staff and management are given a printed Code of Good Practice, a copy of which can be obtained on request from Marina Solarek (Administrator).
7. In the event of any allegation of child abuse, the people who need to know and are responsible for taking any necessary action are:
Marina Solarek (Administrator)
Nigel Goldberg (Artistic Director)
Rachel Douglas (Chair of Trustees)
8. Where a possible or alleged abusive situation either within or outside YMC is suspected or brought to the attention of a member of staff, it is not the responsibility of that person to decide whether abuse has occurred; that is a task for a professional person working with a child protection agency. This task will follow a referral from YMC's designated child protection person(s).
9. YMC follows a strict non-discrimination policy and all pupils are treated equally irrespective of race, sex, religion, disability or ethnic origin.
