Tanya Sweiry Perf. Dip. ABRSM
Tanya Sweiry embarked on her musical education at the age of 6, when she was taught the piano by her mother. At the age of 8 she took up the violin and by the age of 15 achieved the ABRSM Performance Diploma and in 2008 obtained the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. Tanya was awarded a scholarship in 2005 to study at the Royal Academy of Music, London where she studied with Hu Kun and Remus Azoitei. Over the years she has taken part in master classes with renowned violinists including Igor Ozim, Thomas Brandis and Aleksandar Pavlovic. She was won awards from the Claudio Abbado European Young Musicians Trust in 2005 and the Emanuel Hurwitz Chamber Music Charitable Trust in 2009. She graduated recently with a First Class Honours and won the John Baker Development Award. During her time at the Academy she was invited to perform at the Little Venice Music Festival, Winchester Cathedral Lunchtime Recital Series, Queen’s College Oxford Recital Series, Krakow Autumn Festival and most recently at St John’s Smith Square, London as part of the Celebration of Jewish Song. Tanya presently continues her violin studies with Remus Azoitei, teaches privately, gives solo performances and will be entering numerous International Violin Competitions in 2009/10. Although she has previously enjoyed teaching the violin and conducting the Preliminary Orchestra at YMC, she currently thrives on teaching children the value of music theory!
